Here at Codurance Kataday HQ, we are in a festive mood.
The hot chocolate is ready and we have been singing The Twelve Days of Christmas since last Thursday when the London Software Craftsmanship Community got together and worked on this kata.
The song has its origins in the late 1700s, but the version we know now, dates to the early 1900s.
By the end of the song, the singer was swamped with partridges and pear trees, however, in this kata, you are tasked with creating code that will only output the lines of the classic song for the day that you enter.
So, if you entered 1 as your day, the code will output:
On the First day of Christmas,
My true love gave to me:
A partridge in a pear tree
And on entering 12, you would get all of the lines of the song.
Now, where did I put the marshmallow?
Getting set up can be the roadblock to starting a kata. In our screenkatas you can join our Software Craftspeople and let them show you how to set up your repositories for Java, PHP, Python and Typescript. For other languages, check out our guide on GitHub.
Love our #kataday challenges? Then find them all here and don't forget that our Katalyst portal is filled with programming problems to expand and sharpen your coding skills.
